5 Star Garage Door Service's Somerville, NJ technicians replace worn cables before they fail, and re-seat drums that have slipped out of alignment.
We built our Garage Door Cable Repair service around Somerville, NJ customers who need a specialist, not a generalist working outside their depth.
We'd rather send one truck that's actually equipped for garage door cable repair than three that aren't, even if it means a slightly longer wait on a rare occasion.
A cable slipped off its drum gets diagnosed for the underlying cause, not just re-seated.
Galvanized aircraft cable resists fraying far longer than standard cable in humid Somerville, NJ conditions.
Improper cable work while springs are loaded is a real injury risk.
Cables are common stock on our trucks, so most jobs finish in one visit.
Even a few loose strands mean a cable is close to failing under load — replacement cable gets sized to match your spring tension exactly.
A cable that's already snapped usually means the door dropped or hangs crooked — we stabilize it before beginning repair.
A cable that's slipped off its drum causes uneven hanging — worn or cracked drums get replaced rather than reused.
Extension spring systems should run safety cables to prevent whip-back — it's a quick, affordable safety upgrade.
The bracket anchoring the cable to the door corrodes over time — this is a less obvious but equally important part of the system.

If only one shows wear, we'll say so rather than upsell the second.
A door suddenly hanging crooked is another common indicator.
Don't attempt to operate the door manually until it's inspected.
We don't recommend it — cables work under spring tension requiring proper tools.
Many older doors were installed without them — we can add them as a standalone upgrade.
